The commemorations will begin on May 5, with Union flags lining Whitehall and a ceremonial military procession to Buckingham Palace with a highlight by the RAF flypast, featuring historic aircraft and the Red Arrows.

On May 8, a national service of thanksgiving will be held at Westminster Abbey, followed by a grand evening concert at Horse Guards Parade attended by over 10,000 people and aross the country, communities are being invited to take part in local celebrations. The VE Day Proclamation will be delivered at 9:00 AM, and churches and cathedrals will ring bells at 6:30 PM. At 9:30 PM, more than 1,000 beacons and countless Lamp Lights of Peace will be lit to symbolize the return of peace after war.

The Tower of London will host a moving poppy installation, while pubs across England and Wales will stay open late on May 8 and 9 to encourage community gatherings.

Commemorating VE Day 80 is a vital act of remembrance. It honours the courage of a wartime generation and highlights the importance of unity and democracy. In a world still grappling with division, this anniversary serves as both tribute and inspiration to uphold the values of peace.
